Science Day of Excellence

28/08/2014
During Science week, Flagstone State Community College held a Science day of Excellence for Primary Schools in the region. The day was focussed on providing students an opportunity to complete hands-on experiments using equipment that is generally not available in the primary school setting.

During the day the students witnessed a number of Science demonstrations to engage their attention and show them how exciting and interesting Science is.
The diversity of the activities on the day demonstrated the range of knowledge that studying Science allows both students and adults. It was amazing to hear the excitement of the students during the activities and the interest they showed throughout the day.

The students explored the many facets of science from all branches of this extremely interesting and varied subject.  These activities ranged from kitchen chemistry to rocketry on the oval. Physics concepts such as quick sand and gravity water held the students interest, while the flame tests showed how fireworks are designed, intriguing the students to ask varied questions.  Literacy activities were used to explore space utilising IPADs to examine the different aspects of Astronomy.

It was a pleasure to have the year 6 / 7 students at the College for the Science day of Excellence and we look forward to making FSCC a hub of Science excellence across the region in the future.
