Special Education Program
Our core business is to make sure every student in every classroom is learning successfully every day as part of our inclusive education model.
Our aim is to empower our students with the skills and knowledge to become successful citizens, achieve gainful employment and be skilled in all areas of life.
Our Special Education Program (SEP) is staffed by teachers and teacher aides who have a solid knowledge foundation of all the diagnosed disabilities recognised by the Department of Education.
Affiliated to the SEP are Advisory Visiting Teachers (AVTs), Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Pathologists. They assist, adjust and amend the curriculum and physical environment of the school, in close consultation with all stake holders to cater for students with special needs.
Flagstone State Community College implements a co-teaching model where SEP staff work alongside curriculum teachers to provide the best outcome for all students. Special education teachers have, as part of their workload, time allocated to support students who need additional adjustments.
We strongly believe in inclusive classrooms, where we differentiate for individual learning needs.
