Congratulations to Grace Hall (Year 12), who was presented with the prestigious “Outstanding Senior STEM Student Award" at the Peter Doherty 2023 Awards Gala in South Bank on Tuesday 18th August! Grace was one of fourteen Year 12 students selected from across Queensland for this award and receives a bursary to help support her future studies in STEM.
Peter Doherty is a Brisbane born, Nobel prize-winning scientist who created these awards 20 years ago to recognise students, teachers and schools who demonstrate outstanding and innovative contributions to STEM education in Queensland.
Grace has been supported by Flagstone State Community College for the entirety of her secondary schooling and from the beginning, it was clear that she had a passion for the STEM field. Grace was a founding member of the Flagstone Firefoxes robotics team, has represented our school at various maths and science competitions, supported and helped run science day of excellence programs, won a variety of STEM competitions throughout southeast QLD and is completing a traineeship at a local aerospace company.
Although Grace's STEM achievements at FSCC are immense, it would be remiss not to mention her impact on our younger students. Grace's ability to encourage and mentor her peers through sharing her passion has been incredibly valuable to our school community. Even though Grace is nearing the end of Year 12, her positive impact on the school will continue to be felt well into the future.
Congratulations Grace! We are so proud of everything you have achieved, the amazing mentor that you've become, and we can't wait to see what you do in the future!
We would also like to acknowledge Grace's parents, Andrea and Jason Hall, for supporting Grace in all of her various endeavours. It was great to see you celebrate with her tonight at the Awards Gala.
