Special Education Program
Our core business is to make sure every student in every classroom is learning successfully every day.
Our aim is to empower our students with the skills and knowledge to become successful citizens, achieve gainful employment and be skilled all-round.
Our Special Education Program (SEP) is staffed by special education teachers who have a solid knowledge foundation of all the diagnosed disabilities recognised by Education Queensland. SEP teaching staff are supported by our experienced SEP Teacher Aides.
Affiliated to the SEP are Advisory Visiting Teachers (AVTs) to assist, adjust and amend the curriculum and physical environment of the school, in close consultation with all stake holders to cater for students with special needs.
We work in close collaboration with the Learning Support department by sharing resources and ideas. Special education teachers have, as part of their workload, time allocated to them where they work on a one-to-one basis either in class with a student or in the SEP where students can get additional assistance with their assignments, homework or general class work.
Besides the mandated subjects offered at school, our students also engage in certificate courses. We offer a Certificate I in Work Education and a Certificate I in Horticulture. These two courses are facilitated by SEP staff.
We strongly believe in differentiation in our pedagogies as we believe all students learn differently and therefore need to be catered for differently.
